On this day, Robin Greenfield walked away from more than just the grocery store...
For one full year, everything Robin eats is coming directly from the land: wild rice harvested from morning until sunset, salmon from Lake Superior, black walnuts, chokecherries, maple syrup, salt evaporated from the ocean. Over 200 species of plants, mushrooms, and more… gathered from yards, parks, roadsides, and more.
And he did much of it in neighborhoods and cities, the same kinds of places you live. No backcountry required.
What makes him special? Well, Robin isn't a rare genius with knowledge nobody else can access. He'll be the first to tell you that when he started, he didn’t have any of this knowledge. It’s been learned from books, teachers, and local plant walks…one plant at a time. The knowledge is learnable. He's living proof.

WHY FORAGING, WHY NOW
Most of us walk past food every single day and never know it.
The dandelions you've been taught to poison. The plantain growing in the sidewalk crack. The mulberry tree dropping fruit on the parking lot. The milkweed, the wild grape, the hazelnut hedge at the edge of the park.
Somewhere in the last few generations, we traded a skill humans carried for tens of thousands of years for a plastic clamshell of spinach shipped 1,500 miles. And with that trade we lost something bigger than food: a relationship with the living world right outside our door.
Foraging brings it back. One plant at a time.
The whole method: 1 plant at a time
Robin's rule for beginners is simple: learn one plant per week. In a year, you're the person your neighbors come to with questions. You become, as Robin puts it, the wizard of your own community. Or, take the lessons at your own pace, and learn as fast or slow as you desire!

Robin Greenfield
Robin has been called "the Robin Hood of modern times", “a Thoreau-esque character for our digital age” and the "Forrest Gump of ecology." His work has reached millions of people across the world, and more than 2 million follow his journey.
A few things Robin has actually done:
Ate 100% foraged food for almost an entire year (he’s only 2 months from completion!), while touring the U.S. leading public foraging walks from Wisconsin to Kentucky to California
Grew and foraged 100% of his food for a year in Orlando, Florida, and wrote the book Food Freedom about it
Foraged 100% of his food for a month in Northern Wisconsin while leading foraging walks in a dozen cities
Helped provide garden seed packs to 40,000 people in low-access communities and planted hundreds of publicly accessible Community Fruit Trees

QUESTIONS
Before you ask...
Where does this course take place?
Everything is filmed in the field in the US and in Robin's home in Wisconsin. The plants and techniques you'll learn translate broadly within the US primarily and climates similar to the Midwest and Northeast of the US.
Is foraging safe? I'm nervous about misidentifying plants.
Caution is healthy. While the plant lessons cover identification tips, foraging is a skillset and confidence is built over time. The best practice is to include multiple modalities of learning such as books, videos, and with in-person instructors. We encourage you to start with the easiest to identify plants and to start with one plant at a time.
Do I need any special gear?
No. A basic pair of scissors or a pocketknife and a bag or basket are enough to get started. We'll point out optional tools as they come up, but nothing is required to begin.
How much time will this take each week?
The course is entirely self-paced. Many people spend 20-30 minutes per day watching lessons and getting outside to practice, but you can move as quickly or slowly as you like.
How long do I have access to the course?
Forever. Enrollment includes lifetime access on any device, plus any future updates we make to the modules and field index.
Where does my money go?
Your enrollment funds the nonprofit Regeneration, Equity and Justice and Earth Conscious Life, dedicated to bringing nature-focused solutions to the masses. A portion goes directly toward planting Community Fruit Trees so more people have free food to forage.
