10/16/24: šŸ„£ Historic rejection will backfire

The biggest food petition EVER

Happy Wednesday my friend,

Iā€™ve been an activist in the food movement for a long timeā€¦

And what happened yesterday was historic.

Tuesday, October 15th we hand delivered the largest food petition in history ā€“ with over 417k signatures ā€“ directly to Kelloggā€™s headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan.

I proudly stood alongside doctors, politicians, nutritionists, activists, and one thousand singing, chanting, pleading moms and childrenā€¦it was a beautiful moment of uniting to stand up for childrenā€™s health and ethics in our food system.

Vani Hari (Food Babe) led the charge to demand Kelloggā€™s remove artificial dyes and a chemical called BHT from their popular childrenā€™s cereals.

Kelloggā€™s currently sells cleaner, safer versions of these same products to other countries, but offers only the cheaper, toxic versions in the US.

Several parts of the world have outright banned (or mandated warning labels on) these ingredients which are linked to hyperactivity, ADHD, endocrine disruption, reproductive harm, and even tumors in animal studies.

But Kelloggā€™s has dug its heels in, committed to poisoning whichever market it legally canā€¦simply because the petroleum-based ingredients are cheaper.

We peacefully arrived at HQ to discover a nearly empty building. Turns out, employees were told to stay home that day. I believe the technical term for this is ā€œcowardiceā€.

Vaniā€™s message was always focused on helping Kelloggā€™s be the ā€˜good guysā€™ā€¦ an opportunity to be a leader in the industry and do the right thing.

Any representative or intern hearing from Vani for 5 minutes would have at least created the illusion of decency and respect.

Instead, they locked out a Kellogg shareholder and a state senator, while a sea of informed children chanted desperately to protect their generation from this corporate negligence.

Kelloggā€™s has forced our hand and everyone who cares for human health should be outraged ā€“ whether or not you live in America, and whether or not your family consumes anything from this company.

Many mothers are simply unaware of the links to ADHD and hormone disruption, and we fight for those less informed and less privileged.

I hope you will join us in boycotting all Kelloggā€™s products, and spreading the message by sharing this newsletter, or using the hashtag #CancelKelloggs on social media.

Together we can create a surge of new action and education, and hit Kelloggā€™s where it hurts ā€“ their bottom line. Theyā€™ve now clearly shown they do not respect our voices, will only change if government outlaws these ingredients, or if it costs them a significant percent of their value.

As I said in my speech, we must return to a time when a bite of food is a blessing, not a burden. Several studies have shown the hyperactivity connection directly from these ingredients, and weā€™re now seeing a staggering 1 in 7 boys now diagnosed with ADHD.

That figure has jumped 10-20% in just the last handful of years alone, and it shows no signs of slowing. The media and health authorities who are funded by Big Food will consistently downplay the health hazards of the products of their sponsors. It is a seriously hijacked system, and it only changes when we say enough is enough.

You can watch the full speech HERE. My talk begins around the 40:00 minute mark.

Until they change these toxic ingredients, please join us to #CancelKelloggs

A brand with ethics

In the midst of this ā€˜slap in the faceā€™ from Kelloggā€™s yesterday, it reminds me how important it is to support brands that do not require public outcry in order to uphold basic ethics and transparency.

One of the brands Iā€™ve been most impressed with is Ora Organics, who shares their third party testing directly on their website for all to see.

You Might Need More Protein Than You Think

I've always thought I was getting enough protein, but after diving into the research, I realized I needed to up my game. Studies suggest aiming for 1.2 to 2.0 grams per kilogram of body weight daily for real results, especially during certain phases of life like pregnancy, breastfeeding, or intense trainingā€”and even more so as we age. After 40, our strength and muscle mass naturally start to decline, making it crucial to support healthy aging with adequate protein intake.

šŸ½ļø Why It Matters

I've noticed a big difference since increasing my protein intakeā€”it keeps me full longer, boosts my metabolism, and helps with muscle recovery after workouts. Protein even helps with weight loss as it burns more calories during digestion than carbs or fats.

šŸ„¤ Easy Protein Boost

One of the simplest ways I've found to increase my daily protein is by whipping up a quick smoothie. Just blend some protein powder adding in hemp or chia seeds, some wild blueberries, and a nut butter, and you can easily get 30g+ of protein in a single drink. Itā€™s an effortless way to get closer to hitting your goals.

šŸŒ± Oraā€™s So Lean & So Clean Protein Powder

Oraā€™s chef-crafted protein powder is plant-based, with 23g of protein per serving, no sugar, low carbs, and digestive enzymes for easy absorption. Plus, it's gentle on the stomach without any artificial junk (like Kelloggā€™s) that can irritate the gut.
