Plus: walking fitness tip, fennel recipe, and more
Happy Monday my friend,
Last week I gave a speech at a rally outside of Kellogg’s HQ to protest artificial dyes (petroleum-based toxins linked to hyperactivity and ADHD, which are banned in many countries but still added in the US). I edited my speech alongside some exclusive footage I shot while on the front lines of this event. Please comment, like, and share this video so we can keep the pressure on these Big Food companies.
MONDAY MOTIVATION – Oct. 21st, 2024
🐟 BE THE CHANGE: Ocean ecology efforts are making waves around the world, according to this promising report. One study found that global actions against overfishing – while protecting coral reefs – accounted for 10% of existing fish populations to be within conservation areas! Every drop of ocean protection work counts. Read more about the countries gathering together to do this work all over the globe, now and in the past.
🥗 RECIPE OF THE WEEK: You’ve never had a salad quite like this: try Top Chef Tom Colicchio’s Fennel, Pear and Radicchio Salad for a fresh take on bitter greens, and unique flavors that elevate them! Colicchio includes his other recipe for Broccoli Pasta right on the same page. These two healthy creations should keep you plenty busy…AND plenty inspired by this James Beard Awarded chef.
🫅 SUPERFOOD SPOTLIGHT: What could be the favorite superfood… among royalty? A superfood fit for a King. It’s very popular, and known to protect against cancer, reduce heart disease risk, and so much more. You probably know it: packed with omega 3’s, grows on trees, and tastes delicious on toast! (Millennials love it.) Have a guess? Read to find out.
🪰 MIND: A group of Princeton University scientists just managed to fully map out the brain and neurons of a fruit fly! Why should we care? Humans share over half the same DNA with fruit flies, and starting small gives a peek into how our own minds are structured. This stunning fly brain model (only complex complete model of an animal’s brain!) could help doctors anticipate how Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other neurological disorders impact the human mind, spread through the brain, and how they can be healed.
👟 BODY: Why run, when you can walk for fitness? Well… there’s a catch. Many abandon the morning jog for a simple hike (or several!) during the week, and stay just as fit. While walking and hiking can be just as healthy as running, read about what else you should be doing on those walks to reap the most benefit.
🧘 SPIRIT: Author and Interfaith Minister Jackie Bailey shares her take on modern spirituality: how to avoid commodified “spiritual” products, find the “real thing,” and use it to bridge connections: with oneself, community, loved ones and the planet. It’s a brief yet refreshing read that shows us how truly spiritual the world is becoming—both within major religions, and without!
Older generations sometimes mock children for thinking that chocolate milk comes from brown cows, but how many adults are able to point out the edibles in any given natural area today?
