4/3/24: Heart of Nature

Hi my friend,

With Earth Day on April 22nd, we’re officially into “Earth Month”. As you know, we like to think that everyday is Earth Day…but the extra attention culturally each year is a great reminder of our potential for positive impact.

A lot of us care about the environment, but don’t go out of our way consistently to directly contribute to ecosystem restoration.

This isn’t something to be made to feel guilty about. It’s more of a reason to commit to something small and start there. You don’t run a marathon if you can’t get yourself to walk around the block first.

5 ways to celebrate Earth Month

  1. Plant a tree: Sounds obvious, but if everyone planted even one new tree, we make a massive impact. Trees clean our air, provide habitat, and rebalance ecosystems. Plant one in your yard or support a local (or international) tree-planting initiative.

  2. Ditch disposables: If you haven’t already opted for reusable shopping bags, coffee mugs, and water bottles…what are you waiting for?! This is the month. Upgrade to the next level by getting some ‘on-the-go’ bamboo utensils to travel with for road trips or flights so you don’t need plastic forks.

  3. Clean up your corner: Organize a neighborhood clean-up or grab a bag and pick up litter on your walk. This is such a satisfying and rewarding activity because you’ve made tangible impact on beautifying your community that you, your neighbors, and the wildlife in your area will appreciate. Every little piece collected helps!

  4. Become a mindful consumer: Before buying something new, ask yourself if you truly need it. Remember, the most ‘eco-friendly product’ is the one you never buy. Consider getting secondhand, borrowing from friends, or repairing what you already have. Unless you are supporting truly regenerative methods, less consumption means less extraction on our resources.

  5. Go green at home: Start a compost bin, use eco-friendly cleaning products, and unplug unused appliances.

To a healing future,

Rob
