5/31/24: Teens Filter Microplastics, Bison Store Carbon, & Biking Saves Your Knees

A simple, efficient, and revolutionary ultrasonic filtration device developed by two teens in Texas...

Happy last day of May my friend,

Over 300 toxins have been found in tap water in the US since 2019. Literally yesterday, I met a woman named Mandy Ferdman who invented something I’ve been trying to find for years, but somehow never existed! Check it out HERE (more on my chat with her below) and prepare to have one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” moments.

It’s not even available yet, but you can be the first to know when it is!

ECL TRIVIA: What insect is known for its ability to communicate complex messages through dance? (Answer below)

🔊 ACOUSTIC FILTRATION: A simple, efficient, and revolutionary ultrasonic filtration device developed by two teens in Texas can filter out up to 94% of microplastics in water. Victoria Ou and Justin Huang, both 17, won $50k for their invention at last week's Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles.

🦬 REWILDING IN ROMANIA: After bison were introduced in southern Romania in the Carpathian mountains 10 years ago, a "first of its kind" study now describes how the 170 bison could store 54k tons of carbonequivalent to the emissions of 43k average US cars! "We can bring back nature through rewilding and this will draw down vast amounts of carbon," says a director at Global Rewilding Alliance.

🏰 CONSTRUCTION REVOLUTION: Is there such a thing as "low-emission concrete?" After water, concrete is the second most-used material on the planet, and the University of Cambridge has developed what researchers are calling "an absolute miracle" in cement recycling production to achieve eco-friendly concrete on a huge scale. Click here to read about the methods they're using to revolutionize this global construction material.

🌼 PESTICIDE PHASE-OUT: When a group of students at Philadelphia's Drexel University voiced concerns about the environmental, human health, and pet health impacts of toxic weed killers on campus grass, the university groundskeepers agreed to phase out toxic herbicides and pesticides. Now implementing organic fertilizers and soil-science backed solutions, this campus (and these students) are making real inspirational changes. Read more here.

🦥 MOVING SLOWER: Could analyzing movement patterns help diagnose age-related health issues? A new study suggests aging adults might move slower to conserve energy, not because they are weaker. When study participants reached for targets, researchers found they adapted their movements to be more efficient. Both younger and older adults were motivated by rewards, it simply took older adults slightly longer to react.

🚴🏽‍♀️ CYCLE FOR MOBILITY: Does biking regularly keep your knees healthy as you age? New research suggests cyclists are less likely to develop knee osteoarthritis by age 65 compared to non-cyclists! Biking strengthens the muscles that support the knees and promotes lubrication through movement. "It's definitely my longevity drug," says Brooks Boliek, 65.

For warding off depression, lets go with the Finnish recommendation of five hours a month in nature, minimum. But as the poets, neuroscientists and river runners have shown us, we also at times need longer, deeper immersions into wild spaces to recover from severe distress, to imagine our futures and to be our best civilized selves.”

Yesterday I met Mandy…

…the founder and inventor of Bath Haus, and I had to share her story with the Earth Conscious Life community immediately.

As a new mom, Mandy was shocked to discover there wasn't a readily available solution to filter harmful toxins from bathwater. I, too, have settled for the weird dangling tub filter, and am dumbfounded it’s the only design that exists (it’s not great).

Until…

Mandy was inspired to create a revolutionary new, functional design that protects your skin and health during a relaxing soak.

Bath Haus is a game-changer for those of us concerned about the potential health risks of soaking in unfiltered municipal water…which can contain chlorine, arsenic, PFAs, pesticides, radioactive material, and more.

You have to see what she created and definitely reserve your ‘Launch Invite’ because our community can be early adopters to get her patent-pending solution before it hits the market.

Almost no one one Earth has heard of or seen this yet…

By supporting innovative entrepreneurs like Mandy, we're not just getting a product, we’re voting for a healthier future for ourselves and our families.

🦢 SWAN LAKE: Want to see all eight known species of swans at once? Travel to this 150-acre South Carolina public botanical garden to spot them all. Here, cygnets are carried on their mothers' backs— named after the swan genus Cygnus— while the diverse species of adult swans grow to be some of the largest flying birds we know of!

Nutrition 101

ZEAXANTHIN: Zeaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment found in green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli, as well as in colorful fruits. This potent antioxidant helps protect the eyes from harmful blue light, and can reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. Learn more about zeaxanthin here.

Trivia Answer:

The honeybee. Honeybees perform a "waggle dance" to tell other bees the location and direction of food sources. The dance's patterns and duration convey vital information that redefine how we think of communication.

To a healing future,

Rob

P.S. Check out Mandy's invention which changes the game for taking a healthy, relaxing bath – without all the gnarly chemicals in tap water. Get the Launch Invite to reserve a 40% off (with no commitment to buy).

P.P.S. I am aware the average bath uses about 10 gallons more water than a 10-min shower. I’m not suggesting you take a bath every day. However, a bath with magnesium, essential oils, or dead sea salts can be extremely therapeutic for body, mind, and spirit in these modern times. Children and babies need baths with clean water using much less than a full tub. I am proud to support a small business and mom-entrepreneur trying to protect the world’s health.
