7/8/24: Raising healthy kids, heatwave super drink, and are crystals bogus?

Plus: how interruptions lead to creativity

Happy Monday my friend,

If you have children, you know that parents are often faced with the decision of opting for conventional medical treatments OR exploring alternative therapies for their children. My longtime close personal friend and collaborator Dr. Joel “Gator” Warsh will show you how integrative medicine blends the best of both worlds. Register for his free Raising Healthier Kids event (or send it to a parent you know).

**The vast majority of speakers are practitioners and doctors, but I am also giving a powerful talk about the importance of NATURE!

MONDAY MOTIVATION - July 8th, 2024

📽️ BE THE CHANGE: My film (The Need to GROW) is obviously not the only to push the environmental activism envelope through cinema. Read about the One Earth Collective and One Earth Film Festival: an eco & film-related endeavor spreading environmental messages locally in the Midwestern United States. Since 2010, their festival grew from mere hundreds to thousands of attendees annually, and even includes helping young filmmakers produce ecology-conscious films (some as young as the third grade)!

🌶️ RECIPE OF THE WEEK: For when it’s crisp and chilly out— or even for when it isn’t— this Fire Chili Crisp Oil Recipe will heat you up whether you’re inside or out. Straight from Asian cookbook author Kat Lieu, if you’ve already tried classic chili crisp recipes, you’ll like this slight remix that creates a spicy and flavorful oil for Asian cuisine of many kinds. It’s a great intro to the world of chili crisp, too. *Just please swap the inflammatory canola oil for something like EV olive oil or avocado oil (and it should go without saying that the MSG is absolutely not something to include either).

🍚 SUPERFOOD SPOTLIGHT: Simple? Too good to be true? In exceptionally hot Asian countries like India, an easy-to-make rice water beverage (also called Torani) is considered the premier “super drink” for dealing with heatwaves. And yes: it’s as simple (and cheap!) as using the water from your cooked rice. Combined and sweetened with fruit juice, mint, or herbs, Torani provides the body with hydration, electrolytes, minerals, gut-boosting prebiotics, and more—perfect for withstanding extreme heat.

🧠 MIND: Struggling with constant interruptions? This Harvard Business Review article offers a surprising twist. Research suggests that occasional, unexpected breaks from your work can actually boost creativity. The article explores how these interruptions can help your mind shift gears and return with fresh perspectives, potentially leading to breakthrough ideas. I love taking something perceived as negative and flipping it in our perspective!

🤸 BODY: If you’re “in pursuit of happiness” (pretty much all of us!) and you’re a fan of the BODY WORLDS exhibits around the world, you might want to check out their latest wave: The Anatomy of Happiness. This features incredibly real, detailed, and lifelike models of the human body without skin or muscles— only this time, models are engaged in activities known the world over for making us happy: sports, dancing, and more. You also get firsthand education on how body science impacts happiness—and vice versa.

🔮 SPIRIT: People are getting into crystals for spiritual and wellness properties. But what are crystals getting into us? How do they work, and what do they do? Can it be explained by science? Learn all about these ancient healing rocks and minerals that go beyond basic science for their spiritual powers— and why they’ve been used for these purposes for thousands of years. It’s a pretty thorough article.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Raising Healthier Kids

According to the CDC more than 40% of US children now have a chronic disease.

Whether we like it or not, we’ve collectively created a world so toxic and void of nutrition and nature, that we’re leading future generations off a cliff to lifelong illness.

Though I’m not a parent (yet), these alarming facts are why a few years ago I personally co-founded an organization called Integrative Pediatrics with my dear friend Dr. Joel Gator Warsh.

Dr. Joel has continued to thrive as an author, speaker, and leader in the holistic health movement.

And his newest event is the culmination of his life’s work thus far: “Raising Healthier Kids” is a must-attend summit for anyone looking to explore the multifaceted health crisis today's children are faced with and learn innovative, holistic approaches and alternative therapies designed to nourish your child's complete health.

At Raising Healthier Kids: Integrative Approaches to Children’s Health & Wellness you’ll receive:

  • Empowering knowledge and tools to help you make informed decisions about your child’s healthcare

  • Mindful parenting tips to help you cope with parenting stress

  • Strategies for optimal health before and during pregnancy

  • The latest research and innovations in pediatric care

  • Insights into holistic approaches to childhood illnesses and mental wellness that go beyond conventional medicine

  • Effective strategies for helping your child manage anxiety, tantrums, tech and more

  • A sense of community and advocacy, encouraging collective action to improve children's physical and mental health outcomes

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, caregiver, teacher, pediatrician, mental health practitioner, or someone who cares deeply about kids and their future, this will empower you with invaluable, practical, science-backed strategies to raise kids to thrive.

Register now and gain early access to these insightful talks: Tailored Health: Personalized Nutrition for Neurodiverse Children with Julie Matthews, NC Sweet Deception: Unveiling Sugar's Impact on Our Kids' Health with Michael Goran, PhD Beyond the Tantrum: Understanding and Navigating Children's Emotional Storms with Siggie Cohen, PhD

Why attend? As an integrative and holistic-minded pediatrician, Dr. Joel “Gator” Warsh created this event to address the growing concerns and challenges in children's health, and to share knowledge, strategies, and experience to help you support the physical, mental and emotional well-being of your kids.

Yes, you truly have the means to get started on raising healthier kids today!

Be sure to mark your calendar for August 5-11, 2024!
