🧺 LAUNDRY GLYPHOSATE: Are farming and agricultural herbicide applications the main cause of glyphosate levels in European rivers? Researchers now say "certain aminopolyphosphonates used, for example in laundry detergents, are converted to glyphosate in the sewage sludge of wastewater treatment plants." ❄️ HIGH TECH AIR CON: According to an article in Wired this month, air-conditioning cooling uses "1/10 of the world's energy, or 20% of all energy used in buildings." A Montana-based company called AirJoule is setting out to improve A/C efficiency with new technology that can harvest water from the air for cooling, "reducing electricity consumption by ~75% while lowering emissions." 🍆 CONDOM CONCERN: Last month, scientists discovered human skin absorbs "forever chemicals" like PFAS more than previously thought. Now, popular brands of condoms and lubricants like Trojan and K-Y Jelly have been found to contain "alarming levels" of PFAS. The former head of the EPA's toxicology program says because “condoms are an exposure to the most sensitive areas on the human body for both men and women, I would strongly recommend the industry identify and remove these chemicals immediately.”

👨‍🔬 FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: Blocking a protein linked to inflammation may help "reduce frailty" and increase lifespan by 25%, according to a recent study. The protein, IL-11, is being blocked "in human trials against cancer and fibrosis, a condition associated with aging in which scar tissue replaces healthy tissue." 🚬 PESTICIDES BEWARE: Check out this new study published this week in Frontiers, which confirms that pesticides may cause cancer "on a level equivalent to smoking cigarettes." Major corn-producing U.S. states are mentioned in the study, saying widespread pesticide "cocktails" and glyphosate usage may lead to “hundreds of thousands” of additional cancer cases in those states, "even for Americans who don't work on farms."
