9/18/24: DIY: Two easy tonics at home

Consuming either of these nutrient rich tonics on a regular basis delivers well-being!

Happy Wednesday my friend,

Today I’m sharing with you two easy-to-prepare morning tonics!

Before I get to that…

***If you had any interest in exploring education in holistic nutrition, take the 6 month or 12 month program I personally went through to get my certification at Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN is the #1 school for this and pioneered an industry of health coaches)…you can join in the same class as my wife Riana starting Sept. 23rd and get certified alongside her. Code ECLxIIN will save you a big 20% specifically because I am an alum. Go HERE to enroll.

The dictionary defines a tonic as:

noun: a medicinal substance taken to give a feeling of vigor or well-being.

Consuming either of these nutrient rich tonics on a regular basis are certainly vigorous ways to deliver the feeling of well-being!

These combinations of highly concentrated ingredients like raw apple cider vinegar (ACV), lemon, ginger, and turmeric can help to:

  • wake up the digestive system on an empty stomach

  • energize the body

  • help reduce inflammation

  • invigorate the mind

  • deliver live active cultures to your gut (ACV)

  • hydrate your cells after a long sleep

Each tonic only has a few simple ingredients, both are incredibly simple to prepare, and both have a major ZZZIINGG!

I love drinking these for the digestive and health benefits, although I will say, if you’re not used to drinking apple cider vinegar, you may want to gradually work your way up in concentration. It’s a strong flavor that not everyone is used to!

You can make these at the time you want to drink them, or feel free to prep them ahead of time (doubling or tripling the recipe as needed).

Either of these will store well (refrigerated, in an airtight container) for the week ahead.

And, if you’re looking for MORE potent flavor intensity: add more vinegar or ginger to the water ratio to increase the “heat,” to your tolerance!

Does your immune system need a boost? Does your digestion need a kickstart? Or, are you feeling groggier than usual in the morning?

Try either of these tonics, and let me know how you feel!

GINGER MORNING TONIC:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/2 Cups – Filtered water

  • 1 Tbsp – Fresh ginger (peeled, and grated or thinly sliced)

  • 1 Tbsp – Fresh turmeric (peeled, and grated or thinly sliced)

  • Pinch – Freshly cracked black pepper

DIRECTIONS:

  • Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10-20 minutes.

  • TIP: Add more water as needed. The longer you simmer, the more flavor-intense the reduction will be.

  • Pour through a mesh strainer (or tea strainer works great, too) into your favorite mug. Enjoy piping hot!

NOTE:

  • You can also let the tonic cool after cooking, strain and refrigerate, then consume it chilled!
