Happy October my friend,

In our home, the only coffee you’ll find is Purity. It’s the only coffee I’ll share with company, and everyone always comments on how good it tastes, and that they don’t get the jitters like they might with other brands. With National Coffee Day here, there’s a special offer for our Earth Conscious Life community you can check out HERE.

To access Deep Dive articles every Wednesday, new videos every Friday, and so much more, upgrade to the ECL Membership.

🐿️ CREATURE FEATURE 🐿️

The Blue Sea Dragon

The ocean drifting Glaucus atlanticus is a tiny sea slug that floats upside down at the surface on a gas-filled sac, with its metallic blue and silver patterns that mirror sea and sky. It rides wind and waves across the seas, feeding on venomous siphonophores like the Portuguese man o’ war.

It has a unique superpower of theft after eating stinging prey (like deadly jellyfish) the blue dragon stores the intact nematocysts and redeploys them for its own defense! It can sting would-be predators (or curious humans), so this one is best seen, not touched. Learn 9 more cool facts about the Blue Sea Dragon HERE.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Noctilucent: Something that glows or shines at night, often used to describe clouds or other atmospheric phenomena.

Into the Polar Night

In the Arctic, winter means darkness. A darkness that can last months. But this long night is alive with adaptations. The polar bears navigate the icy landscape in search of seals. The coat of the Arctic fox shifts to pure white, blending seamlessly with snow and starlight. And beneath the ice, plankton continue their slow cycles, feeding fish that sustain larger predators. Life carries on in a rhythm that is hard for us humans to imagine.

The polar night also reveals some of Earth’s most dazzling spectacles, like (one of my favorites) the aurora borealis. I hope you get the chance to see as it at least once it your life as it dances across the sky in flowing energy of green and purple. The frozen tundra also creates one of the quietest soundscapes on the planet. In this dark season, many species use the faint glow of the moon and stars to guide their movements, proving that darkness itself can be a source of life and orientation.

Dirty Dozen 2025: What to Prioritize When Organic Can’t Be Everything

Pile of Berries

We all want to eat as clean as possible. But in many seasons, and for many budgets, 100 % organic just isn’t feasible. That’s okay. What matters more is where you choose to spend your organic dollars, especially given how many pesticides linger on conventionally farmed produce.

The Dirty Dozen offers us a guide showing which fruits and vegetables carry the highest levels of pesticide residues. In other words, which ones are worth prioritizing as organic whenever accessible and possible. The 2025 version of this list has been updated to include not just residue prevalence, but information on the toxicity of those pesticides.

Let’s take a moment to review how this guide can be helpful for you and your family…
