🩸 MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM: Credited with saving the lives of over 2M babies, James Harrison, one of the world’s most generous blood donors, passed away this week at the age of 88. After receiving a blood transfusion as a teen, he wanted to give back and began donating his rare “Anti-D” blood plasma every two weeks at age 18 until 81. Read more about this Australian donation hero and his life here.
🧠 MEDITATION MAGIC: Did you know meditation could strengthen the ability to control your emotional responses? A small but important study shows the emotional center of your brain can actually be rewired through meditation, while researchers investigated brain activity “in the amygdala and hippocampus of epilepsy patients during ‘loving-kindness’ meditation.” These results showed “even a single session of meditation was associated with changes in beta and gamma brain waves, which are linked to attention, memory, and emotional processing.”
🔮 BACTERIA FORTUNE-TELLERS: What if the presence of two specific bacteria in the gut could show you the future? In a new fascinating discovery, scientists say that for MS patients, these two bacteria “might not just be a sign of disease, but could actually predict how severe it will be.” This imbalance “was not only linked to having multiple sclerosis but also with worse disability, making it a stronger predictor of disease severity than any single type of bacteria alone.”
