Happy Monday {{first_name|my friend}},

Belonging can start with something as small as an invitation, a shared meal, or a little more curiosity about each other. And if you need a reminder of how extraordinary life together can be, WATCH what happens when this forest starts flashing in sync.

MONDAY MOTIVATION

October 19th, 2026

🌎 BE THE CHANGE: Before buying something you'll use once, check what you can borrow. Some public libraries have a Library of Things, with kitchen equipment, gardening supplies, games, and tools. Ask your local library if they lend anything beyond books. This is such a great idea for a community, so if you don’t have this set up in your area, maybe talk to the library about adding it.

✨ MAGICAL PLACE: Each spring, South Carolina's Congaree National Park hosts what sounds like a stunning event: fireflies who flash in sync. They’re one of the few species that do this, so if you’re near that area, it’s a good thing to have on your radar for 2027. The spectacle depends on a protected forest habitat, so let this be a reminder that preserving a place and ecosystem is also preserving experiences we can't recreate.

🌿 NATURE CONNECTION: Have you noticed any birds disappearing from your neighborhood, or new ones passing through? Journey North’s migration maps let you follow sightings of monarchs, hummingbirds, and other seasonal travelers. Take a look at what people are reporting near you, then keep an eye out on your next walk. You can add your own sightings, too.

🏡 REGENERATIVE HOME: Your toilet could be wasting water without making a sound. Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank and wait ten minutes without flushing. If color appears in the bowl, you have a leak. Here are a few easy checks to help you catch water waste and avoid paying for it. Flush after the test to prevent staining.

✅ TRY THIS WEEK: Think of someone who helped you through a difficult time or encouraged you to pursue something. Have you ever told them how much that meant? Take ten minutes to write it down, including something specific you still remember. These simple prompts can help you write a thank-you that goes beyond “I appreciate you”, and you could read it to them in person or over the phone.

🍽️ RECIPE OF THE WEEK: If you're looking for something to make with all the squash around this time of year, these stuffed acorn squash halves look like a good one to try. They're filled with wild rice, mushrooms, apples, sage, and pecans, with an apple cider dressing. You can leave out the feta for a plant-based version.

🏋️ Eating well is only part of staying strong

You can put a lot of care into what you eat and still notice that getting up from the floor feels difficult, your balance isn't what it used to be, or certain movements seem like they’re no longer an option.

Food gives your body the building materials, but it’s movement and activity that keep it functioning.

That's the idea behind The Full Body Fix, a series of live online classes from therapeutic fitness expert Robbie Stahl, specifically for people over 50.

One thing Robbie emphasizes is: how you move deserves as much attention as how much you move.

Over time, familiar movement patterns can feel right even when we're compensating for stiffness or weakness. Adding more repetitions to misaligned motion doesn't address those patterns.

Robbie's classes explore simple movements and better alignment to help you work toward greater strength, balance, and mobility.

I appreciate that his goals connect to everyday life: carrying groceries, tending the garden, getting out on a trail, and feeling more capable in your own body.

If you've been thoughtful about your nutrition, this could be a useful next step in caring for the body you're nourishing.
