MONDAY MOTIVATION
🏆 BE THE CHANGE: Read about Jacqui Patterson, recipient of the 2024 Earth Award, and hear her empowering acceptance speech— all for her work in environmental justice, climate activism, and where these worlds overlap. Jacqui founded the Chisolm Legacy Project, helping marginalized communities disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation access resources to meet today’s rising challenges— whether economic, societal, environmental, or health-related.
🍐 RECIPE OF THE WEEK: You’d never think pears and mushrooms could work together. A Chinese-inspired soup will prove you wrong! Sweet and earthy, this Mushroom Soup with Asian Pear masters a flavor balancing act with help from ginger, rice wine, and goji berries. Swap out chicken broth for vegetable or (even better) mushroom broth to make this purely plant-based and sublimely healthy.
🥬 SUPERFOOD SPOTLIGHT: Those old Popeye cartoons were on to something. Spinach is a superfood powerhouse, and remains the “poster child” wherever dark leafy greens are mentioned. Famous for antioxidants, fiber, vitamins A, B, K, and beyond— it also contains far more healthy minerals than broccoli or lettuce! And, experts say, the fresher the better and more “super” your spinach will be. *While spinach is nutrient-dense, be mindful of its high oxalate content which can affect mineral absorption and may not be suitable for everyone, especially those prone to kidney stones (more).
🤳 MIND: If you’ve spent enough time around teenagers— you may have heard the term “brain rot.” Slang for both the social media content and mental state you get while doomscrolling, scientists explain in this article that brain rot may be a more perfect term than anyone realizes! Studies show that excessive exposure to this content COULD literally reduce the gray matter in the brain. Give this a read to stay aware of doomscrolling’s dangers– both for yourself and loved ones.
💃 BODY: Hula hooping can be fun; engaging to both mind and body. While some love it, others don’t pick it up— and now, scientists suggest there could be a reason why. According to studies AND laws of physics, not all body types are suited to the exercise. Read more about the science of hula hooping and discover the so-called “ideal body shape” for the pastime.
🧘 SPIRIT: Buddhists Shin Yu Pai, Aruni Wijesinghe, and Melanie Anne Ginn share their profound spiritual connections to poetry, and how this written art transcends any one spirituality— to encompass all. Weaving together Beat poets, classical Confucian poetry, and American organized religions, see how written word can be a powerful spiritual tool tying both past and future into full immersion in the present.
If you say only one prayer in a day, make it thank you.
