Happy Wednesday my friend,
Today we’re covering a 480M year old species, and news about one of my favorite artists, David Blaine. Our Deep Dive is all about Biophilic Design, which I believe is the inevitable direction our society will head once we realize our disconnected we are from Nature.
And don’t forget to check out Pique’s Sun Goddess Matcha - possibly the best on Earth.

🐿️ CREATURE FEATURE 🐿️
The Nautilus
The nautilus, often called a "living fossil," is a magical creature that has survived for over 480M years. Resembling a coiled shell, this ancient cephalopod is a distant relative of octopuses and squids but carries traits from an era before history. Found in the deep waters of the Indo-Pacific, nautiluses thrive at depths of up to 700 meters, where they glide gracefully using jet propulsion.
What sets the nautilus apart is its remarkable shell. Check out this rare footage. Divided into chambers, the shell acts as a buoyancy control system, allowing the nautilus to ascend or descend by adjusting gas and fluid levels. Unlike its more modern cephalopod relatives, its primitive brain and basic vision are enough to navigate its environment and locate prey like small fish and crustaceans.
Unfortunately, nautiluses face threats from overharvesting for their beautiful shells and habitat degradation. Conservation efforts are essential to protect these ancient survivors, which provide a glimpse into Earth's evolutionary history. Their resilience over millions of years serves as a reminder of nature's ability to adapt and endure in the face of change.

Into the Atacama Desert
Stretching across northern Chile, the Atacama Desert is the driest non-polar desert on Earth, with some areas receiving no measurable rainfall for centuries. This extreme environment, resembling the surface of Mars, is stark beauty, featuring vast salt flats, towering sand dunes, and otherworldly rock formations.
Despite its arid conditions, the Atacama is teeming with life uniquely adapted to these harsh surroundings. Microbial communities thrive in its salty soils, offering clues about the potential for life on other planets. Flamingos feed in high-altitude lagoons, and plants like cacti and shrubs cling to life in the desert’s few oases.
The Atacama is also a hub for scientific exploration. Its clear skies and minimal light pollution make it one of the best places on Earth for astronomy, hosting world-class observatories like ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter Array).

🍎 NUTRITION 101 🍎
PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline Quinone): PQQ is a powerful antioxidant and enzyme cofactor found in foods like kiwi, green peppers, parsley, and fermented soybeans. Known for its role in mitochondrial health, PQQ supports energy production at the cellular level and may enhance cognitive function and memory. Research suggests it can stimulate the growth of new mitochondria, making it a potential ally in combating aging and fatigue. While PQQ is naturally present in small amounts in food, supplements are available for those seeking higher doses. Always consult a healthcare provider before adding PQQ to your routine.

Biophilic Design: Bringing Nature Indoors for Better Health

Many of us find ourselves increasingly disconnected from the natural environments that once nurtured our ancestors. Yet, nature’s influence on our well-being remains profound. Biophilic design is an innovative approach to architecture and interior design that seeks to bridge the gap between the built environment and the natural world.
It includes the elements of nature in our homes, workplaces, and public spaces, to improve the aesthetic appeal and promote physical and mental health. This means we create environments where people can truly thrive, as they evolved to.
What is Biophilic Design?
The term "biophilia," popularized by biologist Edward O. Wilson in his 1984 book Biophilia, refers to the innate human desire for connections with nature and other forms of life. Biophilic design incorporates natural elements - such as light, air, water, plants, and organic materials into interior spaces. This isn’t adding a few potted plants or scenic artwork - we’re talking about creating environments that mimic the patterns and textures of the natural world.
