Happy Wednesday {{first_name|my friend}},
When we think about a healthier home, laundry detergent probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But considering how much time we spend in our clothes and sheets, it’s a swap worth considering. Root & Splendor is a small family owned team with what I believe to be the cleanest ingredients of any I’ve ever found.

Bloody-belly comb jelly
These deep-sea animals have a red stomach that hides the light from any glowing prey they’ve swallowed. Since red is nearly invisible at those depths, it helps them avoid becoming another animal’s meal.
They move by beating rows of tiny, hairlike cilia. Watch them swim and see their shimmering colors here.
WORD OF THE WEEK
Albedo: A measure of how much sunlight a surface reflects. Fresh snow has a high albedo; dark ocean water has a low one.
One of my favorite healthier home swaps
We spend a lot of time thinking about what goes into our food. But what about what goes into our laundry?
Our clothes, sheets, and towels touch our skin every day. So our detergent deserves a very close look.
Root & Splendor is the cleanest laundry detergent I’ve personally found, and it works incredibly well. Their stain remover is especially impressive.
After getting to know the founder, I came away appreciating how much care went into the formulas. She takes ingredients seriously, and it’s the kind of small business we should be supporting.
Their concentrated detergent uses enzymes to tackle stains and odors, with just a tablespoon per load. They also offer an unscented option if you prefer to skip scent altogether.

Start with the detergent, and give that stain remover a try while you’re there.

METHYLCOBALAMIN: An active form of vitamin B12, which supports nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA production. Here’s who may need extra B12 and where to find it in food.

👀 Your eyes need a change of scenery
A workday at the computer, a few checks of your phone, then a show before bed. Our eyes can spend hours focused on things just a foot or two away. Did you know that we also blink less during close-up tasks? This can leave your eyes more dry and uncomfortable.
A few simple changes:
Look farther away. Every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Switching to your phone doesn’t count as that break.
Remember to blink. Take a few full, gentle blinks when you notice yourself staring.
Make text easier to read. Enlarge the font instead of leaning closer, and adjust your screen to reduce reflections.
Inside the ECL community, I’ve put together a short guide to screen placement, dry-eye triggers, and making breaks part of your day, as well as some apps I use with my own screens.

To a healing future,
— Rob
